Closing Performance by Bassist Evan Jagels

Don't Miss Out! This week is your last opportunity to view the captivating retrospective exhibit & sale featuring the remarkable ceramic works of renowned artist Eileen Murphy. With over 50 years of artistic exploration, Murphy's pieces range from intricate salt-glazed pottery adorned with local flora and fauna to larger sculptures reflecting deep environmental and spiritual themes. Experience this curated journey of Eileen Murphy's artwork, including supplemental material to better understand the ethos of each piece as you experience it, open to the public each day, 11am-4pm, until Saturday October 5. Then stick around on Saturday for a exhibit closing performance by bassist Evan Jagels starting at 4pm in the Smithy Gallery.

Evan Jagels is a versatile upright and electric bassist, composer, and educator with a passion for blending diverse musical traditions. As co-founder of Duo Extempore, he creates immersive performances that combine classical and jazz elements with storytelling, live scoring, and film production. He also co-leads Killdeer Trio, known for its wide-ranging original compositions, and is a co-founder of the Improvised Arts Festival.

Jagels recently composed and performed an original solo bass score for Franklin Stage Company’s 2024 production of An Iliad. He has shared the stage with jazz legends such as Stacy Dillard, Ray Vega, and Antonio Hart, and has recorded with Grammy-winning cellist Eugene Friesen. His work has been recognized with grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and Queens Arts Council. In addition to performing, Jagels has presented masterclasses at several universities and is currently a Lecturer of Music at Hartwick College.

Join us on Saturday, October 5, at 4pm in the Smithy Gallery for an exhibition closing performance by Evan Jagels performing a program of original work for solo bass.
