Lasting Impressions

Juried Exhibit Presented by the International Encaustic Artists

Lasting Impressions is a juried exhibition presented by International Encaustic Artists (IEA) that invites viewers to reflect on the profound ways memories, experiences, and connections shape our lives. This show serves as both a creative exploration and a heartfelt tribute to the late Melissa M. Lackman, whose kindness, leadership, and devotion left a lasting mark on the encaustic community worldwide. Juror Lyn Belisle, a multidisciplinary artist and Vice President of the IEA Board, has selected works that reveal the many ways impressions—whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or metaphorical—linger long after the moment has passed. Together, these pieces offer a deeply personal yet universally relatable meditation on the human experience.

Water's Edge

Otsego Lake Inspired Folk Art

by Kara Mattice

In her first solo exhibition, local folk artist Kara Mattice presents Water’s Edge, a vibrant collection of paintings inspired by Cooperstown’s lake, architecture, and community life. Kara draws from both her own experiences and historic photographs, blending familiar landmarks with depictions of villagers and their pets to create scenes that feel both timeless and alive. Her favorite part of the process is bringing people into her paintings, adding movement and warmth that make each work come to life. Though largely self-taught, Kara discovered her passion for folk painting through workshops with Janet and Charles Munro, and she has since exhibited in group shows at the Cooperstown Art Association and the Fenimore Art Museum. This exhibition captures her deep affection for the region and her joy in portraying its character.

Central New York Watercolor Society

The Central New York Watercolor Society Second Signature Exhibit celebrates the artistry of Signature members—artists who have earned this distinguished title by demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication to the watercolor medium. Founded in 1982, the Society has grown to more than 100 members, providing education, exhibitions, and community engagement across the region while fostering appreciation for watercolor’s unique qualities. This exhibition offers audiences a chance to see a wide range of approaches and styles, from delicate washes to bold and expressive compositions, showcasing the versatility of watercolor as both a traditional and contemporary art form. Collectively, the works highlight the depth of talent within CNYWS and the enduring appeal of watercolor painting.

Workshop Description: In this workshop, participants will create a sacred geometry form on a painted surface and learn how to create light or glowing effects with dry brush painting techniques. when working with heart centered intention we can mindfully create paintings that can be used in meditation and for protection or healing.

What is Sacred Geometry: Many teachings describe Sacred Geometry as the blueprint of creation, the very foundation of all form and structure in existence. The ancients believed that the act of drawing these sacred patterns was essential to the education of the soul, unlocking deeper awareness and higher consciousness. These symbols—woven into the fabric of our universe—are not merely shapes; they are energy, light, and profound spiritual codes that can heal, awaken, and transform. I encourage anyone interested in Sacred Geometry to experience drawing it themselves.

About Cynthia: About Cynthia Marsh: A lifelong artist, muralist and educator, Cynthia has exhibited her work in the NY area for over 20 years where she also painted many public murals. After moving to Colorado in 2010 she became a Forensic Artist in an effort to use her talents in service to others. Cynthia has worked on cases for over a dozen law enforcement agencies and has been featured on several news stories about her work as a forensic artist. She has been a presenter at the Denver Museum of Art, The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, The Denver Botanic Gardens, at CU Boulder and at many Forensic Conferences, schools and Law Enforcement Departments. Her skills as a forensic sketch artist have also been applied in documenting the memories of contactees and near death experiencers. Cynthia’s current work began years ago when symbols and sacred geometries were shown to her in dreams. This evolving body of work represents Cynthia’s best effort at stepping out of the way, and allowing the dreams to come through without judgment, much like the work she does as a forensic artist, documenting the memories of others.
