Call for Student Artwork

 

The Cooperstown Art Association will be hosting “An Artistic Discovery,” a Congressional High School Art Competition for Otsego County High School Students March 8 through 29.  This exhibit of student work is open to all students in grades 9 – 12 living within Otsego County.  Six lucky students will be awarded ribbons and a digital image of their artwork will then be submitted to Congressman Gibson’s office for final selection in the next phase of competition.  From there one student’s work from our congressional district will go on to be displayed in the corridor leading to the US Capitol along with 49 other high-school artists’ work from across the country.

The categories open for competition are painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, mixed media, computer generated artwork and photography.  The competition aspect of “An Artistic Discovery” is open only to two-dimensional artwork, however, this particular show at the CAA welcomes three-dimensional and sculptural pieces for display purposes only.  The CAA also asks that no more than two two-dimensional pieces be submitted per student. Artwork should be delivered on Saturday, March 2nd, 11-2pm.

A full and more specific list of rules has been sent to the art departments and guidance departments of each school. Students should see their art teachers or guidance counselors for information on how to participate.  Home schooled students residing in Otsego County are welcome to participate and can contact the CAA at (607) 547-9777 for more information.

                                                            Fenimore Quilt Club 2013 Show

 

The Cooperstown Art Association proudly presents the 23rd Annual Fenimore Quilt Club Show which opens Saturday, February 9 and runs through Sunday, February 24. Within easy walking distance of all the festivities of Cooperstown's Winter Carnival this is a show not to be missed!  This highly anticipated exhibit will showcase a diverse array of about one hundred quilts and other quilted items in both traditional and contemporary designs.  This year’s collection will exhibit quilts created by many talented men and women ranging from bed quilts, lap quilts, wall hangings, pillows and more!  Both old and new quilts will be featured and several will be for sale.   

Members of the Fenimore Quilt Club will be present each day to demonstrate quilting techniques and to answer any questions about their craft you might have.  This year’s show will also feature a queen size raffle quilt made by all the members of the Fenimore Quilt Club!  Buildings of many shapes and sizes, each produced by an individual club member make this quilt unique.  It will be on display for the duration of the show and the winning raffle ticket will be drawn Sunday, February 24.  Tickets will be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5 with the proceeds benefiting the Fenimore Quilt Club. 

In addition to the raffle quilt the Fenimore Quilt Club has been busy sorting donated fabric scraps, pieces, yardage, discontinued quilt books and magazines which will be available for sale throughout the show while supplies last.  All proceeds from the fabric sales benefit the local Cooperstown Food Pantry.

                        CALL FOR QUILTS at the Cooperstown Art Association!!!

 

This is a quick reminder that registration for the Fenimore Quilt Club 2013 Show is for one day only!  Please bring your quilted items to the Cooperstown Art Association galleries on Saturday, January 26th from 10am until 3pm.  Exhibitors are asked to register no more than two items.  All quilts and wall hangings must have a 6" sleeve or other suitable method for hanging before they may be registered for the show.  The only exception is for antique quilts which should not be hung because of their condition.

 

Insurance coverage for exhibited works is the responsibility of the owner.  If anyone is interested in selling any of the displayed works, information may be obtained regarding such sale on the day of registration. 

 

The highly anticipated Fenimore Quilt Club 2013 Show will be held February 9 through 24, 2013 at the Cooperstown Art Association Galleries located at 22 Main Street in the Village Library Building on the corner of Main and Fair Streets in Cooperstown NY.  During the show the galleries will be open Monday through Saturday 11-4; Sunday 1-4.

Adorn-a-Door Wreath Festival at the CAA

 

 

Need a wreath for the holidays? Join the Cooperstown Art Association for the Adorn-a-Door Wreath Festival held on Saturday, November 24,
10 a.m.  – 4:30 p.m. Adorn-a-Door will feature over 100 wreaths available for silent auction that have been decorated by area artists, craftspeople and businesses. The silent auction process is easy. After receiving a bidding number, place bids on as many wreaths as you like, out bidding the people before you. Then, as the day progresses, stop by again later to increase your bid before the bidding stops at 4:30 p.m! This festive holiday event is open to the public and includes seasonal treats and local musical talent throughout the day.

Don’t miss out on this year’s exciting raffle item: A private 4-course dinner for up to 12 at Origins Café located at Carefree Gardens in Cooperstown!  The dinner will be raffled off on the day of the Adorn-a-Door Festival and tickets are currently available at the CAA for $10 each.
