New Age Funk Art – Janky Painting

Gallery B (up until May 6)

undefined

New Age Folk Art explores the intersection of two seemingly opposing traditions: the bucolic roots of American folk art and rapidity of modern life. Drawing on a childhood in Cooperstown, Janky Painting’s work connects moments of everyday life, memory, and storytelling. Using mixed media and conceptual approaches, the work embraces the handmade qualities and directness associated with folk traditions—valuing intuition over formal training and elevating ordinary subjects. Layered with imagery drawn from contemporary life, the show creates a visual language that moves fluidly between past and present, where rural imagery meets the symbols and textures of a digitally saturated world. At times humorous, nostalgic, or sharply observant, the work reflects on identity, cultural change, and the tension between simplicity and complexity.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday | 11am-4pm
