Three New Exhibits at the CAA – Opening Friday, September 28th 5-7pm

The Cooperstown Art Association is pleased to announce the opening reception of three new exhibits, the 2012 Central New York Watercolor Society Annual Juried Show, our Luck of the Draw exhibit and fundraiser and “THOSE WHO CAN! : Art of Otsego County Art Teachers Past & Present”.

The Central New York Watercolor Society’s annual juried exhibition will be on display through October 26th featuring selected works by both Signature and Associate members of the society and the opening reception will be an opportunity to not only view the watercolor paintings but also meet and interact with artists from the society.  The juror of selection and awards is the award-winning watercolorist, oil painter, illustrator and mixed media artist David Kiehm of the Deaddrift Studio in Oneonta, NY.   This year the Central New York Watercolor Society proudly celebrates its thirtieth anniversary. Started in the living rooms of just a handful of local watercolor painters from the Mohawk Valley, it has grown to almost two hundred members and includes artists from several other states. The mission of the Central New York Watercolor Society is to encourage the advancement of watercolor painting. For the past three decades, members have been working to improve their skills and promote the art of watercolor through exhibitions, lectures and demonstrations. The annual juried exhibit showcases the very best work of the accomplished and talented membership. More information is available at the organization’s website:  centralnewyorkwatercolorsociety.org.

Luck of the Draw is back by popular demand!  This exciting exhibit and fundraiser will be on display in Gallery B September 28 – October 13th , with the final ticket drawing on the 14th at 2pm.  80 Luck of the Draw Tickets are currently available for purchase and going fast at $80 each.  Every Luck of the Draw Ticket holder will go home with one of 80 pieces of art donated by local and regional artists valued at a minimum of $80.  Take a chance on art and walk away with an original piece of artwork while showing your support of the CAA, a thriving non-profit art gallery!  Visit our website at www.cooperstownart.com or stop by the gallery for more information.

“Those Who Can” will take a unique look into the talented, qualified world of current and retired Otsego County K-12 Public School Art Teachers and will be on display in the ballroom gallery C through October 26th. This group show provides the rare opportunity to view artwork by area art teachers in a gallery setting.  In addition to artwork, artists will provide brief narratives of educational background, teaching history, and recollections of memorable teaching "moments" including gratifying achievements of particular students.  Exposure to art at all ages is crucial to the overall development of creativity and expression in our children and this exhibit celebrates the unique perspective of our talented Otsego County educators.  Artists include:       Fred Blatt, Jim & Maria Hallahan, Doug Hallberg, Peg Hathaway, Sally Herring, Kiersten Jennings, Ann Kiehm, Mary Krupp, Karen Kucharski, Dianne Kull, Barbara Yuenger Michaels,Tina Morris, Anne Bathen Murdock, Eileen Murphy, Karen Rowe, Lee Sperling, Joni Stephens, Cheryl Theis and Rebecca Mietzelfeld Todd.

All three exhibits are located at the Cooperstown Art Association galleries, 22 Main Street, Cooperstown, NY.  The exhibits are free and open to the public.  Gallery Hours:  Daily 11-4; Sunday 1-4. Closed Tuesdays.  For more information please call (607) 547-9777 or visit us on the web at www.cooperstownart.com
