REMINDER! Rescheduled Jon Stein Workshop!

Jon Stein Workshop!

The Smithy Clay Studio is pleased to welcome Jon back to the clay studio to demonstrate and talk about some of his new works. Jon will be demonstrating over two days, August 12 & 13 from 10 am- 1 pm each day.

When: Friday August 12 & Saturday August 13, 2022 @ 10 am - 1 pm each day.

Where: The Smithy Clay Studio, 1 Otsego Ct. Cooperstown, NY

Price: $50 per person, Pre- registration required with payment upon registration. 20 slots available. Pre- register before August 10. Open to the public.

What To Bring: Notebook w/ pen, Drink/Snack, plenty of questions!

*Due to the nature and time constraints there will be no throwing by workshop participants. Jon will demonstrate how he makes his texture roulettes, and workshop participants will get to make their own that we will fire for you to take home!

Bio:

Jonathan Stein is a potter and educator from Cincinnati, Ohio. He found clay and the potters wheel at fifteen and has never looked back. Before completing his BFA at Northern Kentucky University he traveled to Japan to study wood firing. After receiving his degree he worked with artists with developmental disabilities. He continues to believe that creative experiences with clay improve a persons quality of life and works to provide them to as diverse a community as possible. A desire to further his understanding of atmospheric firing led Jonathan to Utah State University where he completed his MFA. Teaching opportunities and artist residencies have allowed Jonathan the opportunity to travel throughout the country. He recently returned to Cincinnati to serve as education director at Queen City Clay and maintains an active studio practice.

Payment can be made by check, cash, or credit card.

*The studio will require anyone taking a course or open studio to be fully vaccinated, and provide proof with vaccination card or empire pass.

*Mask wearing will be optional for everyone working in the studio, but we do reserve the right to change this policy.

Late Summer Open Studio!

4-Week Open Studio August 8 - Sept. 2

*Studio Closed August 12*

*Open studio entails scheduled times for people to come work independently with no instruction.

*If no open studio participants have arrived within 1.5 hours of a session, the studio will close.

4-Week Open Studio Fee-$90.00

*One Bag of Clay Included

*Classes and open studio are ages 18 and up, unless marked otherwise.

Monday 10am-1pm *New Time

Tuesday Closed

Wed. 1:30pm-4:30pm

Thursday 6pm-9pm

Friday 1:30pm-4:30pm

*Open Studio Drop-In Fee: $30 per Session

National Preview Party this Friday, July 8th 5-7pm

EXHIBIT INFORMATION

Everyone is invited to attend the Preview Party and awards ceremony to herald the opening of the 87th Annual National Juried Art Exhibition at the Cooperstown Art Association galleries on Friday, July 8th! The reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, featuring local catering by Kay Pierro and music by Tim Iversen and Friend. Awards will be announced at 6:00 pm on the porch.

The 87th Annual National is a juried art exhibition organized by the Cooperstown Art Association, which is open to all fine artists. The show encompasses a wide range of media including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Our 2022 juror, Sarah McCoubrey, selected entries from across the United States and put together an eclectic and stimulating show. This year, we are proud to have 12 states represented in our National Exhibition.
