Bring a Child to Sew and Beginning Watercolor at the CAA!

The Cooperstown Art Association is pleased to announce that a new Five-Week Sewing Class and a Four-Week Beginning Watercolor Class are being offered for the month of March.  Both classes will meet in the classroom space at the CAA Galleries starting the weekend of March 3rd.

Bring a Child to Sew! Class with Betsy Foster will be held on consecutive Saturdays beginning March 3 and ending March 31 from 1-4pm each week and is designed for children ages 7-14 accompanied by an adult.  Are you a beginning sewer or do you have some basic knowledge of sewing but are looking for new tricks to enjoy machine sewing without all the snags?  This class will involve adult/child learning activities to acquire basic skills and knowledge for fun sewing machine projects. You will learn to recognize different fabrics, sewing tools and identify parts of the machine and how it works. The classes will take you through troubleshooting, using the right tools and discussing shortcuts to develop a group block quilt blanket by completion of the course. Tools for the first class include sharp scissors, straight pins, small ruler or tape, seam ripper and a package of new sewing machine needles size 80/14-90/16 and embroidery needles (easier to thread).  Discussion on fabrics will be held during the first class.  Sewing machines, cutting board and iron will all be provided.  The class fee is $85 for members and $90 for non-members for a child accompanied by an adult.

Beginning Watercolor Class with David Kiehm will be held on consecutive Sundays beginning March 4 and ending March 25 from 1-4pm each week.  This enjoyable beginner's watercolor class requires no previous experience and along with demonstrations, hands-on attention is given to each student's work.  The basics of color, light, value and design will be covered.  There will also be a detailed discussion of materials including paper, brushes and paints.  This is a fun introductory class, a great chance to explore the exciting world of watercolor.  The class fee is $60 for members and $65 for non-members.   High school age students as well as adults are encouraged to attend.  A suggested materials list will be provided upon pre-registration.

You can view our full class schedule online at www.cooperstownart.com.  Don’t forget to register for your spot as our classes begin soon!  For times, dates and prices or to pre-register, please call the CAA at 607-547-9777.
