New Teen Wheel Throwing Class!

New Teen Wheel Throwing Class w/ Karla Andela!

Centering the potter and the clay for teens w/ Karla Andela

Wednesday, 5pm -8pm, 4 weeks, July 13 - August 10 (No Class August 3)

$150.00 w/ bag of clay

*Beginners welcome!

Description: We will weave together mindfulness and playfulness in this unique class for teens. We will start and end class with some stretching and centering. The focus of the class will be on basic wheel throwing skills. Throwing and trimming will be during the first three classes. The fourth class will be for glazing.

*8-Person Capacity

How To Register:

To register for the class or open studio, please email Adam at the studio at gallery@smithyarts.org.

Payment can be made on the first day of class by check, cash, or credit card.

*The studio will require anyone taking a course or open studio to be fully vaccinated, and provide proof with vaccination card or empire pass.

*Mask wearing will be required for everyone working in the studio, but we do reserve the right to change this policy.

CANCELLED Jon Stein Workshop!

*CANCELLED*

Due to cancelled flights we will unfortunately have to cancel Jon's workshop this Friday and Saturday. We hope to have Jon come for a rescheduled workshop later this summer. If you have signed up for the workshop and would like a refund please contact Adam at gallery@smithyarts.org to work that out. Again, we would like to apologize for the last minute cancellation, but these circumstances are out of everyones hands.

Jon Stein Workshop!

The Smithy Clay Studio is pleased to welcome Jon back to the clay studio to demonstrate and talk about some of his new works. Jon will be demonstrating over two days, June 17 & 18 from 10 am- 1 pm each day.

When: Friday, June 17 & Saturday June 18, 2022 @ 10 am - 1 pm each day.

Where: The Smithy Clay Studio, 1 Otsego Ct. Cooperstown, NY

Price: $50 per person, Pre- registration required with payment upon registration. 20 slots available. Pre- register before June 15. Open to the public.

What To Bring: Notebook w/ pen, Drink/Snack, plenty of questions!

*Due to the nature and time constraints of this type of workshop it is non-participatory.This is a great opportunity to observe and ask questions, then take what you learn back to your own work!

Bio:

Jonathan Stein is a potter and educator from Cincinnati, Ohio. He found clay and the potters wheel at fifteen and has never looked back. Before completing his BFA at Northern Kentucky University he traveled to Japan to study wood firing. After receiving his degree he worked with artists with developmental disabilities. He continues to believe that creative experiences with clay improve a persons quality of life and works to provide them to as diverse a community as possible. A desire to further his understanding of atmospheric firing led Jonathan to Utah State University where he completed his MFA. Teaching opportunities and artist residencies have allowed Jonathan the opportunity to travel throughout the country. He recently returned to Cincinnati to serve as education director at Queen City Clay and maintains an active studio practice.
