The Cooperstown Art Association is Expanding!
The Cooperstown Art Association has been given the opportunity to expand its classes! As of May 1, the CAA has opened the doors to the CAA Big Red Annex Art School located at 5 Railroad Avenue in Cooperstown through the generosity of Butch and Mary Welch of Middlefield. The collaboration was inspired by Butch and Mary's history with the CAA: being members, taking classes and the longtime devotion of Butch's mother, Olga Welch, as director of the CAA.
The Welch's space provides 2,000 square feet that is perfect to host a variety of classes and events at a reduced rental rate. Inspired to give back to the community, they are ecstatic to host a tenant that will enliven local culture. Their generosity has already been enhanced with a donation by the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway Corporation who will be providing parking spaces across the street. Butch and Mary hope to inspire others to give back to their community.
You can strengthen our offerings at the new venue by making a pledge of support in any amount. We are compiling a wish list of items needed for the space and welcome your input and help.
This new classroom space will be used immediately beginning Monday, May 20 and it is not too late to sign up. Class and workshop students will enjoy the large new space with plenty of room to let creativity flow!
Doug Jamison will be leading two classes on Mondays from May 20 to July15. Between 10am-12pm he will teach "Water Soluble Oils". Join this class to explore the unique characteristics of oil painting by using water soluble oils without the messy cleanup and toxic smells of turpentine, while learning a procedural approach to the medium including color mixing, glazing, wet on wet, underpainting and direct and indirect painting. The instructor will give demonstrations each session and offer hands on help. The class will be working from photos. The course fee is $135 for members and $140 for non-members.
On Monday afternoons from May 20 to July 15 between 1-3pm, Doug Jamison will teach "Watercolor Techniques". Students in this class will have the opportunity to try out watercolor techniques such as wet in wet, masking, the use of transparency and color mixing. Subject matter will include portrait, landscape and still life. Photos will be employed along with demonstrations. The course fee for this class is $110 for members and $115 for non-members.
Lastly, L. David Pye will be teaching an exciting one-day "Stained Glass Workshop" on Saturday, June 1st to provide an introduction to this centuries-old art form. From 9-4pm that day he will follow an overview of historical and contemporary history of stained glass artistry, fundamental concepts of pattern design, cutting, and joining of glass pieces of various colors. Enrolled students will assemble a framed stained-glass art piece suitable for a window display in the home or office. All tools, equipment, and colored glass pieces are provided as part of the class. At its conclusion, enrolled students will be well on their way for the serious pursuit of this art form. Cost for this special one-day workshop is $190 for members and $195 for nonmembers.
Stop in to the CAA's home base at 22 Main Street in the Village Building on the corner of Main and Fair Street or contact us at 607-547-9777 to sign up! For more information, visit us on the web at www.cooperstownart.com.
