Please note: The CCS Art Exhibit will only be on display through May 13th!

ON DISPLAY NOW UNTIL MAY 11
“The Color of Light” by Helene K Manzo and “Waiting on Dawn” by Mike Reynolds

Helene K. Manzo's paintings and monotypes in her solo exhibit, "The Color of Light", move freely between the figurative and the abstract, capturing the movement of water, reflections of light, and colors as a counterpoint to the still forest around it. Manzo has a deep fascination with water, a recurring theme in her artwork which she sees as a powerful life force that is ever changing yet constant. This exhibit illustrates over 30 years of her life as an artist.

“Waiting on Dawn” by Mike Reynolds, in Gallery B, is a photographic collection of the animals in our region that are most easily observed in the hours just after sunrise. Some of the animals featured in this collection, such as the North American River Otter and Fisher are sometimes very difficult to locate, photograph, and/or observe. All photographs were taken in the Otsego county region of New York State, but many of these animals can be observed throughout the northeast and North America. All photographs are of wild animals that inhabit our region of NY and none have been bated or harmed in any way. These images were chosen because the animals featured are sometimes less visible to the casual observer. This collection is meant to show what anyone can see if they slow down a bit, wake before dawn, and enjoy the silence of early morning in the forest.

Green Woodworking with Emilie Rigby
Saturday | May 7th | 1 - 4pm
$65 Members | $75 Non-Members

Green Woodworking (noun):  the process of carving and shaping wood before it has cured. Greenwood is easy to carve and offers a wide range of possibilities that cured wood does not.

What to Expect
This 3-hour Saturday afternoon class will be held at the Cooperstown Art Association. We will go through the entire process of spoon carving, from log to finished spoon while learning how to safely use a saw, hook knife and straight knife. The class blends demo time and work time in order to maximize learning. We take regular breaks for snacks and show-and-tell. You'll leave the class with a head full of knowledge and a unique wooden spoon. All materials and tools are included, with the option to purchase tools to take home at the end of class or with registration. Puns included at no additional charge.

What to Bring
--   A notebook and writing utensil
--   Water bottle and snacks
--  Work gloves (optional)
--   Whatever tools you have that you want to talk about (optional)

About the Instructor:  Emilie Rigby has been carving green wood and making spoons for 8 years. She has traveled across the country, teaching wood-working and outdoor skills. She landed in Portland, OR in 2017 where she ran a teaching wood shop for a prominent outdoor skills company. With 6 years of teaching experience, she has taught people aged 8 to 80 how to carve spoons. She has recently returned to her hometown of Cooperstown, NY. Her classes are full of useful tips and tricks, metaphors for life, and terrible (amazing) puns.

The Cooperstown Art Association classroom space is located on the Upper Level at 22 Main Street in Cooperstown, NY, in the Village Hall on the corner of Main and Fair Streets. Please contact the Cooperstown Art Association at 607-547-9777 to register today!
