A New Year at The Smithy Clay Studio

As this year comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to update you on The Smithy Clay Studio.

The Hunt For A New Studio Manager -

Adam has recently begun to settle into his new position as a K-12 teacher and wanted all to know that his transition has been smooth and supported by his new faculty members. With that being said we have started the search for a new Clay Studio Manager & Lead Instructor and applications have started to arrive.

What To Look Forward To -

In January the Clay Studio will be offering a 4-week Open Studio Session, manned by Ann Geiger, as we continue our search for a Clay Studio Manager. Please note that the studio will only be open during Open Studio Sessions.

OPEN STUDIO | 4 Week Session | January 2023

January 9th - February 3rd, 2023

Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 1:30 - 4:30 each day

and Thursdays 6pm-9pm.

COST: $90, clay included

SHOP LOCAL THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, BEFORE IT'S GONE!

This is the final week of the Holiday Show & Sale! The last day of the sale will be Friday, Dec. 23rd, and we are open daily from 11am - 4pm until then. Brave the cold and find your last minute stocking stuffers at the Cooperstown Art Association's Holiday Show & Sale.

We here at the Cooperstown Art Association would like to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday with friends and family. We hope that everyone enjoys their various gifts and items purchased from this year's Holiday Show & Sale, and we would like to thank all of you who decided to shop with us and support your local artistic community.

PICK UP OF ARTWORK

Pick Up of Artwork: For all artists and crafts people displaying in our Holiday Show & Sale the date to pick-up your remaining inventory will be Tuesday & Wednesday, January 3 & 4, from 11am - 4pm each day.

*IMPORTANT* It is imperative that all remaining inventory be claimed by the artist on these dates listed above as there will be renovations being done in our gallery spaces. If for some reason you know you cannot be here to reclaim your inventory on either of the specified dates please contact us to arrange a time to pick-up. FUTURE HOURS OF OPERATION

Following this year's Holiday Show & Sale, ending Dec. 23, the Cooperstown Art Association will be temporarily closed (except for Jan. 3 & 4 for pick-up of inventory) as our gallery spaces undergo minor renovations. We will also be using this time to prepare our annual year opening exhibit with the Fenimore Quilt Club Show, on display February 4 - 19.

We hope to see you all in the new year when we reopen our doors on February 4th.

Our gallery will have special hours of operation during the Fenimore Quilt Club Show being open daily from 11am - 4pm and Sunday from 1pm - 4pm.

Clay Studio Manager & Lead Instructor - Full Time

The Smithy Clay Studio is seeking a studio manager and lead instructor. Candidate must have a BFA in ceramics or equivalent experience, MFA degree is preferred. Candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills, show initiative, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Teaching experience and knowledge of wheel throwing and hand building techniques is required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to programming development, clay and glaze preparation, kiln firing and maintenance, and maintaining a safe studio environment. A successful candidate will be compensated with a fixed base salary. This position does not include healthcare or retirement benefits, but does include flexible schedule, generous vacation time, small private office and studio space, free firing and access to dry materials, and sale opportunities at both The Smithy Gallery and Cooperstown Art Association.
