Mosaics, Itsy Bitsy Edibles, Local Artists and more!

Join us at the Cooperstown Art Association Friday, June 8th from 5p.m.-7p.m. for the opening reception of three fantastic exhibits.  Cosmic Powers, Earthly Flowers:  Mosaics by Yulia Hanansen will be on display in Gallery A, Bite Sized:  Itsy Bitsy & Edible, our annual miniature show in Gallery B and the 47th Annual Fine Arts Show of the Leatherstocking Brush & Palette Club featuring work by Frank Rollins in the Ballroom Gallery C.

Yulia Hanansen is from Baltimore MD and her mosaic exhibit, "Cosmic Powers, Earthy Flowers" in Gallery A will delight you with their quality and beauty through July 6.  Yulia's latest works represent her fascination with the cosmos, creation of the Universe, and the connection of human beings to it. Her personal artwork uses layered glass mosaic technique, where tiles are glued on top of each other. This technique is about the infinity. Like in a brush-stroke painting, there is no end to a number of the brush-strokes that can be applied to the work surface. The "Starscapes" series have been created in this technique. Yulia also has a passion for more earthly subjects such as flowers, landscapes, and close-ups of nature. Her most recent show titled "Cosmic Powers, Earthly Flowers" is a combination of organic themes.  Yulia will also be offering Mosaic Weekend Workshop at the Cooperstown Art Association July 7 & 8 please go to www.cooperstownart.com for more information & registration.

"Bite Sized" will feature miniature works exploring the theme of all things Itsy Bitsy & Edible.  Artists participating include Robert W. Blanton, Dianne Bordley, Charlie Bremer, Jane Carr,  Larry Engel, Patti Ferrara, William H. Greer, Tracy Helgeson, Lois M. Holz, Maxine Hunter, Nancy Jarvis, Adele Johnson, Sybil S. The 47th Annual Fine Art Show of the Leatherstocking Brush and Palette Club will welcome work by area member artists:  Frederick & Michelle Artnold, Judy Curry, Edith Dayton, Maureen Haralabatos, Marjorie Harris, Linda Kamrowski, Tina Kiel, Abbey Koutnik, Carol Lernihan, Abigail McEnroe, Dorothy Schrull, Dorothy Smith, Janet Teschke, Dave Webb, Donna Wells, Carole Westerman, Margaret Woodrow and more  and will be on display from June 8 – 27.  The members of the Leatherstocking Brush and Palette Club are local & regional artists and visitors to this show will find an impressive multitude of mediums and styles.   This year’s exhibit will also feature “The Impact of the Image” work by local photographer and resident of the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home, Frank Rollins.  Frank Rollins has been a resident of Cooperstown, New York since 1957. In that time, he was a teacher and photographer, in a unique position to document life in the village for over 50 years. He was born near Syracuse, New York on November 13, 1917 and remained in upstate New York for the rest of his life.   A music teacher and band director, Frank earned a bachelor’s degree in music from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 1941 and later went on to earn a master’s degree in music. Frank began photographing at the age of eight, and never stopped. By the time he came to teach music at the high school in Cooperstown, he began photographing for class pictures, school events, weddings and even Baseball Hall of Fame events. This dual role in the community gives Frank a unique insight into the history of the village of Cooperstown.  The show will take place in our Ballroom Gallery C on the second floor.
