Two Exhibits to Open at the CAA

“Made in New York”& Paintings by Robert Glisson

The Cooperstown Art Association is excited to announce the opening reception of two new exhibits on Friday, August 23th from 5-7pm featuring music by the Stoddard Hollow String Band. Gallery A will be showcasing the 22nd Annual "Made in New York:  The Art of Wood” fine craft invitational show. “The Art of Wood” is entirely devoted to creations made in a variety of local and exotic woods.  Featuring work by 24 talented local and regional craftspeople, this year’s show features an exciting array of functional and nonfunctional work including furniture, jewelry, lighting, vessels, musical instruments, turned and carved items and sculptures that are sure to delight!

In Gallery B, Robert Glisson of Syracuse, NY will be exhibiting his original oil and acrylic paintings that depict soft, atmospheric landscapes.  As a landscape painter, Robert is continuously trying to express a feeling or mood in nature.  He paints in plein air to best understand the land, atmosphere, and spatial relationships. Work is often finished in the studio, drawn out from the experience outdoors. "I am not so concerned with a literal copy of a site but an emotional response. My use of color is sometimes exaggerated in order to elicit this emotion. Design decisions are made about what to leave in and what to take out of the picture. In the end, I want someone to look at my paintings and take a little journey through them…and a little pleasure," states Robert.

Both exhibits are sponsored by Brewery Ommegang of Cooperstown, NY and will run through September 20th. The CAA Galleries are located at 22 Main Street, Cooperstown in the Village Building on the corner of Main and Fair Streets. Special Gallery Hours for Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend are Daily 10-5pm.  Regular Gallery Hours: Open daily 11-4, Sunday 1-4. Closed for Labor Day and Tuesdays thereafter.
