ABOUT THE WORKSHOP In this hand building course you are invited to learn coil construction, burnishing techniques and experience firing your piece in our studio’s outdoor Raku Kiln. Students will each have 5 pounds of clay to create their cylindrical vessel using coils. Students will be required to burnish their vessels outside of class hours in order to ensure a smooth luster. On day two we will intensify the sheen and polish to a high gloss. On the last day of class the students will help load and fire the kiln. Students can remove their glowing hot pieces from the kiln and transfer them into a reduction container. Once cool we will open the container. The surface of the finished vesicle will have black glass like appearance.
