Announcing Spring Classes at the CAA!

 

Want to try something new?  Explore your inner artist?  Then the Spring Classes at the Cooperstown Art Association may be the right fit for you! Classes are held in our upstairs classroom space at 22 Main St. Cooperstown unless otherwise indicated.  This spring the CAA is offering: Open Drawing Group with a Live Model, Bring a Child to Sew with Betsy Foster, Painting the Head with Doug Jamieson, Watercolor Techniques with Doug Jamieson, Plein Air Oil Painting with Mary Nolan, Watercolor Landscape with David Kiehm, Beginning Sewing for Adults with Betsy Foster, Art for Living, Art for Life Workshop with Sue Holmes and Mary Nolan, Stained Glass Workshop with L. David Pye, and a Mosaic Workshop with Yulia Hanansen.   You can also view the class schedule online at www.cooperstownart.com. Open Drawing Group with Live Model

Monday Evenings
Year Round
7:00 - 9:00pm
$10 donation per class
Artists of all skill levels are invited to sketch from a live model without an instructor. This group is perfect for those looking for a creative outlet or to hone their drawing skills! Please call the CAA before attending. Classes are subject to weather and model availability.

 

 

Bring a Child to Sew with Betsy Foster

Saturday afternoons

4 weeks, March 10-31

1-4pm

$85 for Members / $90 for Non-members

This class is designed for a child age 7-14 accompanied by an adult. Are you a beginning sewer or do you have some basic knowledge of sewing but are looking for new tricks to enjoy machine sewing without all the snags? This class will involve adult/child learning activities to acquire basic skills and knowledge for fun sewing machine projects. You will learn to recognize different fabrics, sewing tools and identify parts of the machine and how it works. The classes will take through troubleshooting, using the right tools and discussing shortcuts to develop a group block quilt blanket by completion of the course.  Materials List.

 

 

Painting the Head with Doug Jamieson

Thursday mornings
8-weeks, March 29 - May 17
10am – 12noon
$135 for Members / $140 for Non-members

Explore the unique characteristics of oil painting by using water soluble oils without the messy cleanup and toxic smells of turpentine, while learning a procedural approach to the medium including color mixing, glazing, wet on wet, the use of underpainting and direct and indirect painting. Each session the instructor will give demonstrations and offer hands on help. The class will be working from photos. Fee includes materials.

 

 

Watercolor Techniques with Doug Jamieson

Thursday afternoons
8-weeks, March 29 - May 17
1-3pm
$110 for Members / $115 for Non-members

Traditional watercolor techniques such as wet in wet, masking, the use of transparency and color mixing will be explored. Subject matter will include portrait, landscape and still life. Photos will be employed along with demonstrations. Materials List.

 

 

Plein Air Oil Painting with Mary Nolan

Wednesday Mornings*
6-Weeks, April 4 - May 9
10:00am – 12noon
$160 for Members / $165 for Non-members
This is a 6-week class for the student with past experience with oil painting and is taught onsite with the location changing each week. Students are given the opportunity to learn the techniques of oil painting while working from life.  Materials List.
*Schedule flexibility is required due to weather.

 

 

Watercolor Landscape with David Kiehm

Wednesday Evenings
8-Weeks, April 4 – May 23
6:30pm - 9:30pm

$110 for Members / $115 for Non-members

Watercolor Landscape with David Kiehm is an 8 - week class that will focus on interpreting landscapes from photographs and concentrate on developing space & mood in landscapes. Materials List.

 

 

Beginning Sewing for Adults with Betsy Foster

Saturday afternoons

4 weeks, April 7-28

1-4pm

$60 for Members / $65 for Non-members

Beginning sewers will acquire skills and knowledge necessary for basic sewing machine projects. They will learn to recognize different fabrics, read patterns, use sewing tools and identify parts of the machine and how it works, as well as terminology used in sewing projects. Classes will take you through basic skills and troubleshooting. Projects will progress depending on the speed of the class and will include making a tote bag, sewing tool holder, funky aprons, and more. Learn how to reuse, recycle and recreate.  Materials List.

 

 

Art for Living, Art for Life with Sue Holmes and Mary Nolan

Saturday:  10-4pm; Sunday: 11-3pm

2-Day Workshop:  April 21 & 22

$80 for Members / $85 for Non-members

Mary Nolan, landscape painter and Sue Holmes, ceramicist are offering an intensive weekend course in self-expression for women. Access your imagination with movement, music, paper and oil pastels. Emphasis is in the doing, not the product. No experience is necessary, only a willingness to explore color, shape and form, working moment to moment. Abandon all preconceived ideas about creation and learn to see by doing. We are surrounded by creativity; give yourself time to explore and discover.

 

 

Stained Glass Workshop with Dr. L. David Pye

Saturday or Sunday, June 2 or June 3
One Day Workshop
9am - 4pm
$185 for Members / $190 for Non-members
This one day workshop will be offered both Saturday and Sunday with a different project each day. If a student wishes to sign-up for both days the cost will be $350 for members, $360 for non-members. Materials are included.

 

 

Mosaic Weekend Workshop with Yulia Hanansen

Saturday & Sunday, 9am-4pm

2-Day Workshop:  July 7 & 8

$325 for Members / $330 for Non-members

Would you like to create a mosaic but don’t know how to start? This highly informative hands-on workshop is for beginning students. You will learn how to plan out your mosaic masterpiece from start to finish. This includes design specifics, cutting and nipping tiles and glass, mosaic layout styles, and proper gluing instructions. Grouting demo will be given at the end of the workshop. You will have a choice between a mirror or a wall piece, enough glass colors to satisfy the wildest imagination, and professional tools to work with. Join in the fun and create something extraordinary! Materials are included.
