Art for Living, Art for Life Weekend Workshop at the CAA

The Cooperstown Art Association is pleased to announce our Art for Living, Art for Life Weekend Workshop for Women to be held on Saturday, April 21st from 10am-4pm and Sunday, April 22nd from 11am-3pm.  Mary Nolan, landscape painter and Sue Holmes, ceramicist are offering an intensive weekend course in self-expression for women. Access your imagination with movement, music, paper and oil pastels. Emphasis is in the doing, not the product. No experience is necessary, only a willingness to explore color, shape and form, working moment to moment. Abandon all preconceived ideas about creation and learn to see by doing. We are surrounded by creativity; give yourself time to explore and discover!   The class fee is $80 for members and $85 for non-members.

Mary Nolan was born and raised in Massachusetts. Her work reflects the beauty and diversity of the region, from coastal marshes and beaches, to the streams, wetlands, fields, ponds and forests of central New England. An award winning artist who has worked in various media for the past 30 years, she now focuses primarily on creating small on-site oil paintings, many of which are used as studies for larger studio paintings. Her paintings are found in numerous national and international collections.   Sue Holmes graduated from the State University at Albany, studied with Fran Simches, chairman of the Ceramics Department and received a degree in Sociology with a minor in Art. Sue then moved to Syracuse, NY where she took night classes in design and ceramics from Marge Hughto. In 1973, she attended the State University at New Paltz with a degree in Art Education with a concentration in ceramics. From 1976-1980 she taught pottery to adults and children at the Art Farm in Middlefield, NY. Since 1990, Sue has offered courses in collage, adult ceramics, and maintained a private studio. She has exhibited in Hudson, NY at the Carrie Haddad Gallery and sold work at a home furnishing store, Lilli & Loo in 2003.
