THE SMITHY IS OPENING FOR THE SEASON

OPEN FOR THE SEASON!

CLAY

Opening Reception

Tuesday, June 4th, from 5-7pm

CLAY will be an exhibition featuring artwork by both Smithy Member Artists and invited Guest Artists.

As the title of this exhibit implies, clay will serve as the central medium to all works on display. In this exhibit artists will illustrate how clay can serve as a useful and diverse form of media in all aspects of creation and the pursuit of artistic expression. All three floors of The Smithy Gallery will feature work by Smithy Member Artists along with Guest Artists who have been invited based on their exceptional and creative talents with this medium.

This exhibit will remain on display through July 13th during our Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday from 11am-4pm.

Please note that we ask all food and drink remain outside during the Opening Reception.

Get your hands dirty! Experience the thrill of creating with clay as you contribute to our community clay coil vessel! Visitors to our gallery are invited to get hands on with clay, provided daily throughout the exhibit, and create a coil to be placed on our live coil vessel located on the first floor of the exhibit. This is a great opportunity for visitors who have little to no experience with clay and would like to get a taste of the amusement and relaxation that comes with creating with clay. A model vessel will also be available as part of this “creation station” to exemplify the various ways clay coils can be utilized, ensuring an innovative process throughout.

Raku Firing Interactive Demonstration! On June 20th, from 10am - 4pm you can view a live Raku Firing Demonstration by Kyle Pumilio, Smithy Clay Studio Manager. Raku is a traditional Japanese pottery technique known for its unique, unpredictable glaze effects and rapid firing process. Originating in the 16th century, it involves removing pieces from a hot kiln and placing them in combustible materials to create distinctive textures and colors. The method emphasizes spontaneity and embraces imperfections, making each piece one-of-a-kind. Not a clay artist? No Worries! Purchase a clay body that day & watch it transformed by the raku process.
