National Show on display through August 16^th

at the Cooperstown Art Association

 

The Cooperstown Art Association’s 2013 National exhibition was juried by John Magnan, a conceptual artist from Massachusetts who is also steeped in the craft tradition.  Throughout the jurying process he felt great appreciation toward the artists for risking exposure of themselves and their work to the rest of us for judgment. John strived to show no bias of any art form or subject matter submitted.  The National Show is a must-see and we encourage everyone to come visit and view this exceptional exhibition before it closes on August 16th.  This inspiring show is overflowing with diversity and talent, which reflects John's overwhelming thoughtfulness that went into the selection and awards.

 

The Cooperstown Art Association’s 78th Annual National Juried Art Exhibition kicked off with a very successful Preview Party on Friday, July 12th where this year’s award winners were announced. Twenty-two awards were given, with the Grand Prize awarded to Meredith L. Cantor-Feller of Syracuse, New York for her larger-than-life digital photograph, "American God of Labor and Recreation."  Drawing her inspiration from the varied experiences of living and life, she embraces the medium of photography to allow herself to be put into the experience of her subjects.  By means of digital technology to isolate interactions, she uses the remaining symbolism of people, patterns, and light to softly and formally proclaim visual balance and harmony, leaving the viewer with little resolve.

           

The Cooperstown Art Association is located at 22 Main Street in the Village Building on the  corner of Main and Fair Streets.   Admission is free and open to the public.
